The Parting Song of Autumn

The chill in the air leaves me breathless as I tag along.

To listen to the gentle reminders of autumn’s parting song.

The squirrel is chuckling happily hoarding his hefty stash.

As the cardinal dances softly on the branch of a crimson ash.

Every tree tells a story of their beauty fading as the leaves fall below.

While the rippling creek whispers a soft harmony to flow.

The endless lullaby of fall enchants all who overhear.

Until next year I wait, for a new melody to endear.

The Autumn Leaf

There is nothing more relaxing than gazing at an amber-glazed leaf drifting ever so slowly from a fading maple tree.  I don’t mean the usual manic droves of rustling leaves that recklessly whiz by as the wind whisks them in a messy swirl.  I mean the peaceful dawdling, unhurried leaf, brimming with untouched dewdrops in this breezeless, tranquil, crisp break of day.

Everything appears motionless, serene, and harmonious this morning.  This soothing moment sets the scene for a perfect autumn day, moving ever so slowly, keeping winter pushed aside for just one more day.
